How to Write a stuttering dialogue/character
This pic is from tumblr and from the account mentioned in the pic
And this is what I attempted after reading that.
Example:
The tavern was old and so was the meat. Abenthy took a bite from the loaf of bread dipped in soup, but it was completely tasteless, like a biscuit dipped in water.
With no paper to read, nor anyone for company, his eyes roamed, until they found a woman a few tables away from him who just had him stop and stare. Like him, she was sitting with no company and coincidentally having the same dishes he was. That meant only one thing......she was new to this place too and just like him hadn't known this wasn't a good place for a delicious meal.
Picking up his plates, he took one deep breath, stood up and approached her table.
'The name's Abenthy, a travelling merchant, what about you?' . That's what he'd planned to say, but after taking up the chair infront of her and looking at her up close all courage left him. Her beauty was way above his league.
"Miso",she said, "the name's Miso".
"Ofcourse! Yeah, I.. I am Abenthy, a travelling merchant, what... what about you?"
She ignored the question.
"Just having something what usually should be a dish that's hard to spoil. I see you've got the same dishes."
"Yeah," Abenthy scratched his head, trying to not get lost in those warm blue eyes of hers. Blue eyes were his greatest weakness, "how do like... like this place?"
She raised an eyebrow, "If there's anything to like about it", she said after swatting away three flies from her bread.
His legs tapping against the floor and his hand fiddling with the morsel of bread he tore at the start of their conversation, he wrestled with his mind to come up with something amazing to say, or just something to happen so that he could get away from here.
"How's the weather? You can ask that, isn't that what most men default to in such a situation", she smiled.
That did a little to remove his nervousness.
A few minutes later they paid for their food and left the maid some unfinished plates to clean.
"So you how, how long has it been since you arrived at at Neville?"
"Just yesterday.....during the night."
She walked to where her horse was tied and Abenthy was soon following her on his own mare.
Fighting down the blush, he asked, "May I see, see your home?"
"Not very good at courting a woman, are you?", she laughed, "You move too fast. But you also amuse me....impress me at the archery competition tomorrow and I’ll think about it. "
